The history of the aeroplane !

In 1783, two frenchmen - a doctor named jean Pilatre de Rozier and a noble man ,the marquis d'Arlandes made  the first free flight in an artificially created device. They floated for more than 8 kilometres over paris in a large linen and paper balloon .In 1843 ,William henson, a british inventor ,patented plans for the first plane with an engine ,propellers, and a fixed wing . But after building one unsuccessful model,he gave up the project. In1848 ,his friend john string fellow built a small model plane using henson's design .The model was successfully launched but could stay in the air only a short time. In 1890 ,Clement ader, a french engineer, took off in a  steam powered plane that he had built, but he could not contol the plane and keep it in air .About the same time ,the inventor hiram maxim -an american  who had become a british citizen -built a huge steam powered flying machine .It had two wings ,two engines ,and two propellers.Maxim tested the plane in 1894 .It lifted off the  ground briefly but did not actually fly.
During the 1890's,Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright became d in flying while operating their bicycle-manufacturing shop in Dayton,Ohio,U.S.A.They started building gliders in 1899.The next year, they began making glider flights near experiments, the brothers worked out a system for controlling an aircraft in flight.
In 1983,the Wright brothers built their first aeroplane, named the Flyer. It was a biplane (two-wing plane) with a 9 Kilowatt (12-horsepower) petrol engine that the brothers also built. On Dec.17,1903,Orville Wright became the first person to successfully fly an engine-driven,heavier-than-air machine. The flight took place near Kitty Hawk. The brothers launched the plane from an 18-metre rail on a sand flat. The plane took off and flew 37 metres at about 48kph.
The flight lasted only about 12 seconds. The Wright brothers made three more flights that day. Wilbur made the longest one --260 metres in 59 seconds.
Expect for a few inventors, most people took little notice of the Wright brothers' achievement. But the men continued to improve their planes.

What the Fish !

African Jewelfish Freshwater Species Profile

African Jewelfish

The jewelfishes from Africa are some of the most beautiful, and most bellicose, of the cichlids. While bimaculatus was the original jewelfish introduced into the hobby many years ago, there are now a number of other species available. They all behave the same and require the same conditions.

Angelfish Freshwater Species Profile

Angelfish

Long a favorite among aquarists, the angelfish is a tall fish that can be kept in a community setting, as long as its tankmates are not overly aggressive or habitual fin nippers. Fast-swimming fish may also make an angelfish nervous and may out-compete it for food.

Arowana Freshwater Species Profile

Arowana

The Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is a long and beautiful fish known for its voracious appetite and constant surface skimming, looking for things to fit into its mouth. It is native to waterways of the Amazon River and other areas in South America as well as Southeast Asia and Australia.

Bala Shark Freshwater Species Profile

Bala Shark

Also known as the tricolor shark or silver shark, the young bala shark is a staple item in most aquarium stores. However, this fish is a poor choice for most aquaria.

Barb Freshwater Species Profile

Barb

Barbs are freshwater tropical fish within the genera Barbus and Puntius. They are very popular aquarium inhabitants, and the group includes well-known species such as the tiger barb and cherry barb.

Betta Freshwater Species Profile

Betta

The betta, also known as the Siamese fighting fish, has become a popular fish among hobbyists primarily because of the male’s beautiful colors and lavish finnage.

Blackline Penguinfish Freshwater Species Profile

Blackline Penguinfish

The blackline penguinfish is also called Boehlke’s penguinfish, false penguin tetra and hockey sticks. This species needs at least a 20-gallon aquarium for a small group of six or more fish. This fish is hardy and sticks to the upper waters of the community aquarium.

Bleeding Heart Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Blind Cave Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Blind Cave Tetra

The blind cave tetra is a schooling species that is a little too aggressive for the normal tetra community. It is best kept in a group of three to six individuals in a tank with other robust fish, such as small cichlids, livebearers, barbs and catfish.

Blue Gourami Freshwater Species Profile

Blue Gourami

The blue gourami is a robust fish that should be kept with other hardy, but mildly aggressive, community tank fishes. When kept with active, aggressive fishes it will often retreat to a corner and hide. House only one male per aquarium, as this species has a tendency to fight with one another.

Buenos Aires Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Buenos Aires Tetra

The Buenos Aires tetra is now provided to the hobby almost exclusively from fish farms in Florida, which means it usually has been raised in alkaline, hard water. It will, however, adapt back to its original conditions of neutral soft water.

Cardinal Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Cardinal Tetra

The cardinal tetra is probably the world’s favorite tropical fish in terms of numbers kept. Many hobbyists have at some point in time, kept cardinal tetras. And, while they have been bred, they have never been bred in commercial quantities.

Catfish Freshwater Species Profile

Catfish

Catfish are very recognizable and popular aquarium inhabitants. They belong to the order Siluriformes, and include a wide variety of freshwater and saltwater catfish families.

Cherry Barb Freshwater Species Profile

Cherry Barb

As with many other fish, the cherry barb is now almost exclusively raised commercially in the Far East and Florida. If you ever have a chance to procure wild stock, purchase them and you will see what their true colors are. That said, the cherry barb that is in the hobby now is a beautiful fish.

Glowlight Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Glowlight Tetra

The glowlight tetra is one of the most beautiful and easy to keep fish offered in our hobby. If you want an absolutely spectacular tank, put a school of glowlights in with black gravel, lots of plants and subdued lighting. You will understand the “glow” part of their name.

Goldfish Freshwater Species Profile

Goldfish

The goldfish is a form of wild carp that has been kept by humans as pets since at least 970 A.D., which is the first recorded instance of keeping and breeding them. The Chinese have developed different varieties of goldfish since then, as have the Japanese shortly thereafter.

Kuhli Loach

Although it will live for several years in an aquarium where it is the only fish of its kind, the kuhli loach will seldom come out in the open under these conditions.

Lemon Tetra Freshwater Species Profile

Lemon Tetra

The lemon tetra is not seen much in the hobby anymore, most probably because when young, the fish does not show much in the way of colors. Also, the commercial breeding of this fish in Florida and the Far East has taken what was already a very subtle range of colors and made them even less notable.

Livebearer Freshwater Species Profile

Livebearer

Livebearers are any omnivorous fish that retain eggs inside the body and give birth to live young. This group includes some of the most well-known and widespread fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby, including guppies, Endler’s livebearers, mollies, platies and swordtails of all types.
